Lochmere Golf Club has a long and storied history. The land on the course is built upon was donated by the estate of Dr. Forrest L. Ferguson, Sr., and his wife, Marion, in 1977. Over the past four decades, the club has undergone several different expansion and renovation stages. The most recent expansion was completed in 2000 when nine holes and a driving range were added to the existing nine. The golf club is also known for its involvement in local events and charitable activities. In 1987, it was the first public golf course in the area to host the North Carolina Amateur Women’s Golf Championship.
